Love Sucks X
Celebrating the most overrated emotion ever.
Wow... Valentine's day has come and gone and I'm still single. I'm so upset, I'm going to break out in sad love songs, and so will the rest of Out of Context and four other groups, so come on down to see:
- UCLA Signature A Cappella
- UCLA Random Voices
- Brandeis Voicemale
- Caltech Fluid Dynamics
- Caltech Out of Context
As always, the concert is free to all but donations will be greatly appreciated. There may also be a special 10th anniversary celebration, so stay tuned!

Hook-slide!
Five Parts, Four Guys, One Big Sound
Last year they gave a smashing performance for Caltech, and this year they're coming back for more! Hook-slide will be here, and they're premiering their new CD, Bump it Up, with a mix of classic songs like "Long Train Running" and "No Quarter" and amazing original arrangements as well. They'll be here at 7pm in Baxter Lecture Hall, which is in the third floor of the Baxter building, entering from the south. Come take a break from midterms and hear this group break past the limits of humanly singable.
For those who may be coming from outside the Caltech community, directions to campus parking are here. From the parking structure, walk south on Holliston Ave until the end, then turn right onto the walking path. After two minutes' walk Baxter Lecture Hall should be on your left side; climb three flights of stairs to enter the hall.

OADN and Uptown Vocal @ Decompression
A Cappella from the East Side
Drew University's On a Different Note(OADN) and Columbia's Uptown Vocals are touring the West Coast, and they're coming to Caltech for Decompression! Decompression will open at 7pm in Avery Dining Hall, and singing should commence by 7:30pm. OADN will be singing on Saturday during Decompression, and Uptown Vocals will sing for us both Saturday and Sunday. Come along and get free food, lots of Koolaid (OH YEAH, that's the theme this term) while listening to some awesome East Coast a cappella - it'll be a treat.
On a Different Note is a 14-person all female (got your attention now, did I?) group hailing from Madison, New Jersey. They've been around since 1992, which is a long time. Their singing style mixes folk, soul, rock, and popular songs. In addition to Caltech, they'll be singing their way around Santa Monica, UCLA and UCSB while on tour. Here's a random sentence from their webpage:
If you could buy anything from a tv infomercial, what and why? The Magic Bullet. Seriously. It's amazing. You can make a delicious filling for a chicken quesadilla in under 10 seconds. Well really, I guess it's just a food processor, but the infomercial has some kind of psychic control which bores into your brain and convinces you that you NEED THIS PRODUCT.
Uptown Vocals comes from Columbia, New York, a jazz-pop mixed a cappella group with 11 singers and about as many years of experience. Their website is all Flash-enabled and wicked cool. As are they.

Love Sucks IX
Because love still sucks after all these years
It's that time of year again, Valentine's Day, and an excuse for Caltech's a cappella groups to hold yet another bitter Love Sucks Concert!
We'll be celebrating our bitterness Saturday, February 25th, at 3:00 pm, at Avery Dining Hall on Caltech campus. Caltech's Fluid Dynamics and Out of Context will be there, as well as several off-campus groups (because love is cruel all around the world):
Admission will be free, but donations of $2 will not be unappreciated. The doors will open about 15 minutes before the show, so come early to get a good seat. Whether your current love life is awkward, miserable, or even nonexistent, come celebrate Love Sucks IX with us!

Love Sucks VIII
"It's late this year so you can break up first!"
Your humble yet good looking Caltech a cappella groups are bringing to you the eighth, and surely the best ever, anti-Valentine's Day concert!
When: Saturday, February 26, 3:00 pm
Where: Avery Dining Hall. Click here for directions.
Why: Because sometimes, especially at Caltech, love sucks.
Who will be there?
Good luck with your valintine's crushes, and hopefully you'll be free of romantic entaglements by the 26, so you can fully appreciate the angst we have to offer.
